I found this insightful article online regarding the Feast of Firstfruits, which begins tonight...the celebration of Yeshua's resurrection and the firstfruit offering to be waved before our Heavenly Father! I was just studying the Scriptures and remember, the instructions regarding this feast are to hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.
As a card idea for the kids, I bought a package of pearled barley from the grocery store. I'm planning on making little sacks of grain, and rolling up a note inside with the barley, as a more tangible example of the feast day we are celebrating. Very simple, but yet so was Yeshua's first coming. His glorious coming will be soon...His first coming was in humility.
Disclaimer: I very much appreciate the writer of this article and the helpful insight into the feast, however, we do disagree in that the author does not support the calendar I have previously posted on this blog. The author supports a death, burial, and resurrection according to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, whereas I support the 5th day (beginning in the evening) through Shabbat rendering of the death, burial, and resurrection of Yeshua.
Also, here is a personal blog account on the firstfruits offering that I really appreciated: http://sevenamongyou.blogspot.com/2010/09/first-fruits.html (Photo courtesy of this blog)
This blog posting was this believer's personal account of her garden and connecting it to the firstfruits offering in the Scriptures. May we all glean from one another!
And this was another site I found pretty cool and may give you a little inspiration for impacting your own community: http://firstfruitgarden.wordpress.com/ It is a community garden concept where a majority of the harvest is donated to those in their local community. Isn't that fabulous? Praise Yah for works like these...
