Ok, I will post a picture of this fun snack once I actually get to the store to try out this healthy, 95% raw treat for Yom Teruah, aka Feast of Trumpets. But in the meantime, I wanted to make sure you had enough time to get to the store to buy the ingredients to make them for the feast!
Just take some simple ingredients and get creative! Here they are:
Simply Fruit-Rollups (my daughters' favorite treat)
Other dried fruit/nuts/orange peels for garnish
1. Peel banana and cut 1/2 inch off the side farthest from the stem.
2. Peel the plastic off of the fruit roll-ups then cut them into strips approximately 1 inch wide. (I used 2 Fruit Roll-ups per banana)
3. Wrap fruit roll-ups around banana and form to look like a shofar!
4. Decorate with any other healthy treats you'd like!
*Just remember to wrap the roll-up tightly at the narrowest part, and more loosely toward the end so it looks like the horn.
Plus, if you want, try a vegan icing recipe and have the kids really get their decorative juices flowing! Here is my favorite:http://www.elanaspantry.com/coconut-cream-frosting/
(If you don't have arrowroot powder, try a different binding agent like cornstarch.)
AND...SHOFAR SHO GOOD!
Another note: don't cut the 1 inch strips on the Roll-ups until you peel the plastic off! It just doesn't peel as easy afterwards.
The flavors tasted so great together! My kids and I wanted to make more but we will show restraint for the new moon sighting. Anyway, Happy Yom Teruah!
