New from the Heart of Wisdom Homeschool site, Robin Sampson has created a new lapbook to incorporate the story of Hanukkah into your curriculum. Even if it is just a jump start to get your own creative juices mixing, it is a great starting point! You can purchase the How-To via download through the website at: http://heartofwisdom.com/biblicalholidays/2011/12/20/new-hanukkah-lapbook/

Another cute video to enjoy this Feast of Dedication!
Watch this video to be apprised to the paganism and some surprising traditions of men in the Christmas holiday:
I hate to do it to you if this information is new for you, but I do it out of love, just as someone dear to me showed me. When I came to the truth of these holidays, my world fell apart, as this was the ONLY way I knew how to worship the Father and His Son. But with trust in my Savior and a passionate desire to walk in the Truth, I made the transition to the Feasts of YHVH and boy has there been an incredible outpouring of blessing! The Feasts of YHVH (Passover through Sukkot) actually testify to the Messiah (Yeshua) much in every way. The transition can be brutal, like yanking off a band aid. The first year of my switch of holidays to holy days was kind of dry and boring at first. (Like trying on a new pair of shoes. They are so adorable, but I do NOT enjoy breaking them in!) All those "fun" traditions I was leaving behind! But I trusted the Father and His Son to lead me into all truth, and now I would NEVER trade the Feasts for anything. The Holy Days are SUCH a blast. Seriously. No really. So give it a shot, and don't be discouraged if it takes a little while to personalize the feast days for you and your family. Check out suggestions on this site if you want. Hopefully I'll get to post soon some more of our new traditions our family has incorporated to help!
I am not big into making Hanukkah a shameless attempt to compete with another winter holiday I shall not name, but instead I do like to provide a few meaningful gifts to help the kids celebrate. My idea is more to make memories than ruin that with materialism. With that being said, I did stumble across this website that is right up my alley: etsy.com. If you would like to purchase any of these items, by all means I will provide the links. But I will be using it as a jumping off point for getting my own creative juices flowing. Whichever you decide, enjoy the online window shopping! Here goes:
This is a Hanukkah magnet kit with orange glass magnets so that you can add a flame for each night of Hanukkah. It also has a little background card and wooden dreidel. What a cute gift to get someone in the mood this feast! (Can fit in your purse too.)
It's going for $9.50 per kit.
Find them here: Hanukkah Magnet Kit
What are these you ask? Well, dreidels of course! But not bouncing or melodious or light up dreidels, but caricature dreidels personalized for your family! This was my favorite item I found anywhere. You can personalize the dreidel with up to 8 caricatures of your family members. Now that's just precious.
Check them out here: Caricature Dreidels
And the perfect boys to men gift! Tie t-shirts. I thought these were adorable and great for pictures!
Order them thru this link: Tie Tshirts
They are listed as a 4 piece set, but you can click on the seller's other listings and find monogrammed shirts, onesies, etc.
Here was a different Hanukkah doll for the holidays. Last year I bought the mini Rebecca Rubin doll and her Hanukkah book (from American Girl) for my daughter last year. We really enjoyed having Rebecca come to celebrate the festivities with us! Could you imagine this new little doll joining the party? So darling, in my humble opinion.

And my menorah choice for 2011! These individual "candles" are actually made from recycled wool sweaters with felt flames that button on. Definitely one that even the kids can enjoy!
These are one-of-a-kind sets, so the seller is asking $60 per menorah.

Have a baby girl nearby that needs a little flair this Hanukkah? There are several listing for other ages for Hanukkah tutus, but this personalized baby tutu was my favorite!

At The PJ Library, you can be involved in a Jewish reading enrichment program where the organization will mail you free, high quality Jewish children's literature and music on a monthly basis to families in North America. They have many local chapters, and enrollment is for children ages 6 months to 8 years old. The books are children's stories tied to the feasts as well as charity and volunteerism. Wonderful selections, as I have read many of the selections myself!
It's really easy to enroll. Go to this link: http://www.pjlibrary.org/parents-and-families/enrollment.aspx And find your local chapter's enrollment page. It's quick, simple and best of all...Painless!
If you would like to support this program, visit http://www.pjlibrary.org/donors-and-funders/donate-to-pj-library.aspx and help bless children growing up to honor Yahweh's words.
This book by Amy Meltzer was displayed at my local library at Hanukkah. Odd, I thought. But it turned out to be a blessing from above.
The book is "A Mezuzah on the Door" and you can visit the author's website here:

Here are a few suggestions for Hanukkah gifts that I used this year!
For an infant or toddler, the Fisher-Price Little People Hanukkah Play Set went over very well with my little one! When it was time to light the candles on the REAL menorah, she was not old enough to participate. But no worries! This playset has its own hanukkiah that lights up when you push it and plays music! She had a blast and didn't feel like she missed out on the biggest part of the holiday!
